Sophie Station Hotel History |
Construction of Sophie Station Hotel began in 1983 to house the population growth sparked by the building of the Trans-Alaska Oil Pipeline. However, another historic event led to its final completion: the momentous meeting in Fairbanks, Alaska of President Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II on May 2, 1984. Although neither the President nor the Pope was to stay at Sophie Station Hotel, its construction was escalated in order to accommodate the media personnel and other individuals who were expected to come witness the event. Today, the all-suite hotel, named after the builder’s aunt, offers exceptional guest service in a warm, upscale environment. Some of our famous guests include: Hal Holbrook (Actor), Pat Morita (Actor), Chris Calloway (Singer), and Gallagher (Comedian). |
