Have an ‘ice trip at Fountainhead HotelsTaking place each year in February and March, the World Ice Championships are a colorful showcase of Fairbanks’ beauty, hospitality and community spirit. Hosted by Ice Alaska, this sub-zero spectacle is the largest event of its kind in the world, with over one hundred chain-saw-welding sculptors from 30 different countries showcasing their inspiration and creativity on single blocks of ice weighing as much as 6,800 pounds. Last year, more than 45,000 spectators from around the world took part in the frozen festivities. In addition to the Multi-Block, Amateur and Youth competitions, the World Ice Championships features great food and a Kids Park made entirely of ice, with slides and rides for all ages, challenging mazes, and life-sized sculptures of favorite animals, cartoon characters and popular toys.
